Ashley Monroe

country

Ashley Monroe is a country and Americana singer-songwriter, born September 10, 1986 in Knoxville, Tennessee and based in Nashville. She won a talent contest in Pigeon Forge at eleven singing a classic country song, and her father's death from cancer when she was thirteen became a recurring subject in her writing, most directly on the album Sparrow. She moved to Nashville as a teenager, landed a publishing deal as a songwriter and then a recording contract with Sony, whose delays kept her debut Satisfied shelved until a digital release in 2009. Like a Rose, produced by Vince Gill, followed on Warner Bros. Nashville in 2013 and established her critical standing; The Blade in 2015 was nominated for the Grammy for best country album, Sparrow in 2018 was produced by Dave Cobb, and Rosegold in 2021 pushed her writing toward pop and looser rhythmic textures. Tennessee Lightning appeared in 2025 and the concept album Dear Nashville in 2026. She is a founding member of the trio Pistol Annies alongside Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley, formed in 2011, which has released Hell on Heels, Annie Up and Interstate Gospel. Her duet with Blake Shelton, Lonely Tonight, reached No. 1 on Country Airplay and drew a Grammy nomination, and she has also recorded with Train and sung backup for Wanda Jackson in Jack White's Third Man house band, alongside songwriting credits for Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean and Lambert. In 2021 she disclosed a diagnosis of Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, a rare blood cancer, and stepped away from music for treatment before returning to recording and touring. Her live sets favor small theaters and listening rooms, including The Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee.
