Slay & Stinson

Bluegrass

Slay & Stinson is a bluegrass and Americana band based in Denver, Colorado, co-led by singer-guitarists Scott Slay and Travis Stinson. Stinson is a Nashville native now living in Golden, Colorado, and Slay is an East Coast-raised singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. The full band adds Nick Einterz, a southern Indiana banjo player and songwriter, mandolinist Brett Kretzer from western Maryland, fiddler and composer Andy Reiner, and Detroit-born bassist Chuck Rourke. Between them the members have performed with Sammy Shelor, Scott Vestal and Sierra Hull. The group writes melody-driven original material drawing on both everyday and fantastical subject matter while keeping to traditional bluegrass instrumentation and vocal arrangement. It won the band contest at RockyGrass in Lyons, Colorado in 2025, a result that carried an invitation to play a full main-stage set at the festival's 54th edition the following year. At RockyGrass 2026 the band sold a limited run of CDs collecting its discography along with unreleased songs, and announced a new studio album featuring guest appearances by Haven Slay and Bonnie Sims of Big Richard, timed for release ahead of an October date at CaveFest at the Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee. Other 2026 bookings have included the Boogie on the Hill festival at New Terrain Brewing and a set billed as Slay & Stinson Plays Hot Rize, performing the first Hot Rize album in full with Pete Wernick sitting in and twin fiddle parts transcribed by Reiner. Away from festivals the band works a wide range of Colorado bookings including breweries, weddings, corporate events and private parties, and has recorded studio sessions and interviews for Boulder community station KGNU, where it has aired originals including a gospel number and Ain't Going Back to Gatlinburg.
