Molly Tuttle

Molly Tuttle is an American bluegrass and Americana guitarist and singer-songwriter, born January 14, 1993, in Santa Clara, California, and raised in Palo Alto. She is the daughter of bluegrass multi-instrumentalist and teacher Jack Tuttle, started guitar at eight, was performing onstage with her father by eleven, and played in the family band The Tuttles with AJ Lee alongside her brothers and mandolinist AJ Lee. She attended Berklee College of Music on a merit scholarship and received the Hazel Dickens Memorial Scholarship. Diagnosed with alopecia areata at age three, she has spoken publicly about living with alopecia universalis. Her playing pairs flatpicking with a clawhammer technique adapted from banjo to guitar; in 2017 she became the first woman named IBMA Guitar Player of the Year, won it again in 2018, and was the Americana Music Association's Instrumentalist of the Year in 2018. Her debut album, When You're Ready, appeared on Compass Records in 2019. She then signed to Nonesuch Records and formed the band Golden Highway, with Bronwyn Keith-Hynes on fiddle, Dominick Leslie on mandolin, Kyle Tuttle on banjo and Shelby Means on bass, recording Crooked Tree (2022) and City of Gold (2023) with them. Both won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album, and Crooked Tree also brought a Best New Artist nomination and IBMA awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year. Golden Highway dissolved in May 2025 and Tuttle assembled a new all-female touring band that summer. Her third album for Nonesuch, So Long Little Miss Sunshine, was released on August 15, 2025. In December 2025 she became engaged to Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show. She works theaters, festivals and the Grand Ole Opry stage, presenting a set that mixes original songwriting with traditional bluegrass repertoire and extended guitar features.
