Channing Wilson is a country and Americana singer-songwriter from northwest Georgia. Raised by working-class parents, he picked up guitar at seventeen and started writing after finding his mother's poetry, taking Guy Clark and Steve Earle as models. He formed his first band at twenty-six and worked regionally for about six years, including a stint with the TN Rounders, before moving into songwriting full time. He signed a publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing in October 2010, which put him in Clark's orbit as a mentor, and later signed an artist and publishing agreement with Warner Chappell and Low Country Sound, the Elektra imprint run by producer Dave Cobb. His songs have been recorded by Luke Combs, Tyler Farr, Jason Eady, Sunny Sweeney, Travis Tritt and the Oak Ridge Boys. The best known is She Got the Best of Me, written with Combs and Rob Snyder, which topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart in October 2018 as Combs's fourth consecutive number one and was certified Diamond in 2025. Wilson toured the Country Throwdown Tour in 2012 and has shared bills with Billy Joe Shaver, Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, Tony Joe White, Chris Knight and Dale Watson. His debut album, Dead Man, was produced by Cobb and recorded at Cobb's studio in Savannah, Georgia, and released on 24 February 2023; its ten songs include Dead Man Walking, Blues Comin' On, Drink That Strong, Beer for Breakfast and Sunday Morning Blues, and Wilson has said he wanted the record to address mental health directly. Reviewers received it as a hard-edged, blues-inflected country album delivered in a gravel-toned voice, and Saving Country Music rated it highly. He made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2022 and continues to play the Opry alongside club and theatre dates.
