Maddox Batson is an American country singer and songwriter. Born William Maddox Batson on December 13, 2009, in Hermitage, Tennessee, just outside Nashville, he spent part of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. He turned to music in the summer of 2022 after a diagnosis of Osgood-Schlatter disease kept him out of sports; he began writing and playing with his father and posting videos to TikTok, and a cover uploaded in September 2023 passed a million views. His debut single, Tears in the River, followed in early 2024 and charted on Spotify's US Viral 50, leading to a recording deal with Warner Records in partnership with Prosper Entertainment. His songs pair classic country phrasing with southern rock and contemporary pop production; X's has become his most-streamed track, with more than sixteen million global streams, and he co-wrote Tough, a Lana Del Rey and Quavo release that reached the top forty of the Billboard Hot 100. Warner issued his first EP, First Dance, in March 2025, made up of seven songs he wrote or co-wrote, and expanded it that May as First Dance (The After Party) with three additional tracks. In 2024 he became the youngest artist to perform at Nashville's Whiskey Jam during CMA Fest, and he made his Grand Ole Opry debut on March 26, 2025. He headlined the sold-out I Need A Truck Tour and opened dates on Lainey Wilson's Whirlwind World Tour beginning in September 2025. Batson has named Morgan Wallen, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra and Playboi Carti among his influences, an unusually wide range that shows up in the mix of traditional country writing and pop cadence in his records. His festival and event dates include Bourbon and Beyond in Louisville and the New York State Fair in Syracuse.
