East Nash Grass

East Nash Grass is a bluegrass band from Nashville, Tennessee that grew out of a weekly Monday-night residency at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge in the Madison neighborhood, begun in 2017 and still running. The group assembled from working Nashville sidemen who covered for one another's touring absences at the standing gig, and it built its repertoire and its loose, wisecracking stage manner over roughly seven years of weekly sets and late-night jams. The core lineup is James Kee on guitar, Cory Walker on banjo, Harry Clark on mandolin and Maddie Denton on fiddle, with Jeff Partin on bass; dobro player Gaven Largent, long part of the band, now appears intermittently and played on the most recent record. Members' outside credits include work with Dan Tyminski, Tim O'Brien, Sierra Hull and Rhonda Vincent. Walker won the IBMA Momentum Award for Instrumentalist of the Year in 2014, Clark toured with Volume Five before joining, and Denton, a third-generation fiddler from Murfreesboro, won the 2016 Grand Master Fiddle Championship and the IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year award in 2025. The band signed to Mountain Fever Records in 2022 and released its label debut, Last Chance to Win, in 2023. It won the International Bluegrass Music Association's New Artist of the Year award in 2024 and was nominated for Entertainer of the Year in 2025. All God's Children, released by Mountain Fever on August 22, 2025, collects ten tracks: five originals, two covers, two songs from friends of the band and a string-band arrangement of a traditional Liberian chant. Live, the group pairs conventional bluegrass instrumentation and hard rhythmic drive with arrangements that deliberately test what the genre will accommodate. It tours nationally between Monday nights at home.
