Big Daddy Weave is a contemporary Christian rock band formed in 1998 in Mobile, Alabama, by students at the University of Mobile, among them brothers Mike and Jay Weaver. Mike Weaver sings lead and plays guitar; the current lineup also includes Joe Shirk on keyboards and saxophones, Jeremy Redmon on guitar and trumpet, Brian Beihl on drums and, since 2023, Raul Alfonso on bass. Founding bassist Jay Weaver died on January 2, 2022 at 42, of complications from COVID-19. The band self-released Neighborhoods in 2001 and then recorded a long run of albums for Fervent Records, including One and Only (2002), Fields of Grace (2003), What I Was Made For (2005), Every Time I Breathe (2006), What Life Would Be Like (2008), Love Come to Life (2012) and Beautiful Offerings (2015). Love Come to Life is the group's highest-charting record, reaching number three on Billboard's Christian albums chart and certified gold. When the Light Comes followed in 2019, and Let It Begin, the band's ninth studio album, arrived in May 2025 through Curb Records, trailed by its title single in March 2024. Its best-known songs include Redeemed, a number one Christian single in 2012 certified double platinum, along with the gold-certified My Story, Overwhelmed and The Lion and the Lamb, and God Is in This Story, a number one 2022 collaboration with Katy Nichole. Mike Weaver published a memoir, I Am Redeemed, in September 2019. The group continues to headline, most recently on the Heaven Changes Everything tour with Hannah Kerr and Austin French.
