Starbomb
Starbomb is an American comedy music trio formed in 2013 in Los Angeles by Ninja Sex Party members Dan Avidan and Brian Wecht together with animator Arin Hanson. Avidan and Hanson handle the rapping and lead vocals while Wecht writes and programs the backing tracks on keyboards and synthesizers, and the songs are rap and synth-pop parodies built around video game franchises including The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon and Metal Gear Solid. The self-titled debut arrived in December 2013 and topped both the Billboard Comedy Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts. Player Select followed in December 2014 and also reached number one on the comedy chart, finishing third on the year-end comedy tally. Wecht produced both of those records. After a gap of several years the trio released The TryForce in April 2019, produced by Jim Roach, which reached number 22 on the Billboard 200 and again topped the comedy chart, with instrumental backing from Canadian synth-rock band TWRP. Guests across the catalogue have included Markiplier, voice actor Ashly Burch and Rachel Bloom, who voiced Princess Peach. The project went dormant after The TryForce before the three resumed work in 2023, releasing a fourth album, Starbomb Boom: Rise of Lyrics, in October 2024. All four albums are self-released. Songs are typically paired with animated music videos, with recent entries covering Sonic, Elden Ring, Stardew Valley and Nintendo Online; the audience overlaps heavily with the Game Grumps YouTube channel that Hanson and Avidan host, from which the project originally spun off. Starbomb presents the material live as a staged show billed on the current run as Probably The Only Tour Ever.
