Julia Wolf, born Julia Jade Capello, is an American singer and songwriter from Glen Head on Long Island's North Shore in New York. She is of Italian descent, with a father who emigrated from Turin and a mother whose family came from the Lazio region, and she spent weekends in Queens as a child. She began writing poetry and lyrics at North Shore High School, studied English literature and graduated from SUNY Purchase; the stage name comes from a childhood nickname her younger sister gave her. Wolf started releasing music independently in 2019 through AWAL, and shortly afterward met producer Jackson Foote, who became her steady studio collaborator and co-writer. Her EP Girls in Purgatory appeared in 2021, followed by the debut album Good Thing We Stayed on Poorchoice/BMG in early 2023 and Pressure on AWAL in 2025. The 2024 single In My Room was certified platinum in the United States and silver in the United Kingdom. Her alt-pop pulls from indie pop, alternative rock, electronic production and R&B phrasing, with a heavier guitar edge that critics have traced to alt-rock and shoegaze; comparisons to Caroline Polachek and Lorde recur in reviews. She has named early-2000s pop, R&B vocalists and the visual world of the Twilight films among her reference points, and her lyrics are diaristic, often built around anxiety, self-image and small domestic scenes. Wolf has headlined shows across North America, the United Kingdom and Australia, and is supporting Machine Gun Kelly on the Lost Americana tour through 2025 and 2026, which has moved her from clubs to theaters and arenas.
