J & The Causeways

J & the Causeways is a New Orleans soul, rock and funk band led by Jordan Anderson, who sings and plays piano and organ. The group is completed by Evan Hall on guitar, Evan Paydon on bass, Scott Graves on drums, Ari Kohn on saxophone and flute and Harry Morter Jr. on trumpet, a two-horn front line that shapes the arrangements. The band built its following through a residency at the Maple Leaf Bar, the long-running Carrollton club whose booker offered the slot on the condition that Anderson expand the group's catalogue quickly. Its recordings begin with a self-titled four-song release in January 2019, followed by the debut full-length Motions on 11 April 2025 and by two concert albums cut in New Orleans rooms: Live at the Maple Leaf Bar and the twelve-track Live at Tipitina's, released 19 December 2025. That live set runs the whole of Motions in sequence, with tracks stretched well past their studio lengths, and closes with two songs outside the studio catalogue, "High Water Symphonies" and "Young Americans"; several members came up through jazz, which shows in how far the arrangements open out on stage. A further studio album is planned. Anderson sketches songs alone and brings them to rehearsal for the band to arrange, horn parts included, and describes the result as a modern take on joyous soul and rock; comparisons in the regional press run to St. Paul & the Broken Bones and Brittany Howard. The band has played the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, and tours nationally, working clubs and festivals from the Carolinas to Colorado and the Pacific Northwest. It is managed by 7S Management and booked by Crossover Touring.
