DJ Hoppa is an American hip hop DJ and producer from Panorama City, in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles, born April 28, 1983 to a trumpeter father and a cellist mother. He began making beats in high school and has worked professionally since about 2004, when he issued the instrumental set To April From June. He was formerly signed to Funk Volume, the now-defunct label run by rapper Hopsin, and heads Broken Complex, an independent label and studio operation in North Hollywood through which he releases his own records and handles production, mixing, engineering, artwork and video. His production credits include Dizzy Wright's The Golden Age, The First Agreement and SmokeOut Conversations, Jarren Benton's My Grandma's Basement, and work with Gavlyn, SwizZz and Sirah, whose Clean Windows Dirty Floors he produced in 2007. His own releases include Up Jumped the Boogie with Australian group Bliss n Eso (2006), which charted in Australia, the solo album Network Networth (2009), the various-artists Hoppa and Friends (2015), Stoney Point with Demrick (2015) and One Week Notice (2018), which drew on Dizzy Wright, Audio Push, Emilio Rojas, Jarren Benton and others. He has shared stages with Immortal Technique, Ghostface Killah, Kid Sister and The Crystal Method. Since 2024 he has toured the United States and Canada as DJ for rapper Wax; the two recorded largely on the road, in hotel rooms and the tour van, using the portable studio Hoppa travels with, and released the collaborative album Highway Hotel, whose guests include Little Stranger, G. Love, K.A.A.N., Jarren Benton and Watsky.
