Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle

Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle is an American roots band from Cincinnati, Ohio, working in a string-band and folk-Americana idiom that also takes in blues, gospel and traditional country. The group takes its name from its founder, guitarist and lead singer Matt Wabnitz, who performs as Buffalo Wabs, and from Price Hill, the west-side Cincinnati neighbourhood. Wabnitz plays a hard, percussive style of guitar and sings with a raw, unpolished delivery; alongside him are drummer and percussionist Casey Campbell, an Alabama native billed as The Deacon, whose gospel-schooled harmony singing shapes the band's vocal arrangements; Scott Risner, known as The Kentucky Waterfall, on mandolin, resonator guitar, tenor banjo and vocals; and Bill Baldock on upright bass and vocals. Wabnitz and Campbell are the founding pair and have played together for more than a decade. Risner has worked the bluegrass circuit for over thirty years, with credits including Alison Krauss and J.D. Crowe & the New South, while Baldock spent years based around Nashville as a sideman. The band's recorded output begins with the live album Revival, released in March 2015, and continues with the studio album Stranger in the Alps in March 2019 and a self-titled record issued on 24 October 2024. Live, the group moves at a fast clip between original material and older American songs, trading breaks across mandolin, banjo and guitar, and reviewers have singled out the tightness and speed of the picking. It plays regional listening rooms, breweries and roots-music clubs across Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, including the Southgate House Revival in Newport and Woodlands Tavern in Columbus.
