Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles on February 15, 1992, working in alternative rock, power pop and pop-punk. The founding lineup was Rivers Cuomo on vocals and guitar, Patrick Wilson on drums, Matt Sharp on bass and Jason Cropper on guitar; Brian Bell replaced Cropper during the recording of the first album in 1994, and Scott Shriner has played bass since 2001, making the Cuomo, Wilson, Bell and Shriner lineup the band's longest-running by a wide margin. Their 1994 self-titled debut, known as the Blue Album and produced by Ric Ocasek, is certified five-times platinum in the United States and produced Undone - The Sweater Song, Buddy Holly and Say It Ain't So; Rolling Stone later placed it on its list of the 500 greatest albums. Pinkerton followed in 1996 and was poorly received at the time before being reassessed as one of the decade's more influential rock records. After a hiatus from 1997 to 2000 the band returned with the Green Album in 2001, and has since released a large and stylistically restless catalog including Maladroit, Make Believe, the Red Album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End, the White Album, the covers-only Teal Album, the orchestral OK Human, the hard rock Van Weezer, and the four-part SZNZ song cycle in 2022. Singles including Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun, Beverly Hills and Pork and Beans reached wide audiences, and their 2018 cover of Africa returned them to radio; the Pork and Beans video won a Grammy. The band has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide. They toured stadiums on the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy, marked the Blue Album's thirtieth anniversary with the 2024 Voyage to the Blue Planet tour, and announced a twentieth studio album, Gold Album, in 2026 alongside a North American arena run.
