Warrant is an American glam metal and hard rock band formed in Hollywood, California in 1984. The lineup that broke through paired vocalist Jani Lane with guitarists Erik Turner and Joey Allen, bassist Jerry Dixon and drummer Steven Sweet. Their debut, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, was released in 1989, reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum on the strength of Down Boys, Sometimes She Cries and the ballad Heaven, which climbed to number 2 on the Hot 100. Cherry Pie followed in 1990, peaked at number 7 and sold around three million copies in the United States, its title track becoming the band's signature song. Dog Eat Dog, released in 1992, went gold and reached number 25, after which shifting radio tastes pushed the band off the mainstream charts; Ultraphobic arrived in 1995. Lane fronted the group from 1986 to 2004 and again briefly in 2008; he died on August 11, 2011 at the age of 47 from acute alcohol poisoning. Born Again, released in 2006, was the first Warrant album without him. Robert Mason, previously of Lynch Mob, took over as lead vocalist in 2008 and has held the role since, singing on Rockaholic in 2011, which reached number 22 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, and Louder Harder Faster in 2017, which reached number 19 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Turner, Dixon, Allen and Sweet all remain in the touring band, which continues to work theatres, casinos, fairs and rock festivals, latterly under the Turn Up the Good Times banner, playing sets weighted toward the first three albums.
