Volume Five is a bluegrass band formed in 2008 and led by fiddler and lead vocalist Glen Harrell. What began as a casual jam session became a full-time touring act whose members are drawn from several states: Harrell in Mississippi, banjo player Chris Wade in Ohio, mandolinist Nick Keen and guitarist and vocalist Jared Hensley in North Carolina, and bassist Wyatt Harman in Missouri. Harrell spent six years touring with the country singer Marty Raybon, including appearances at the Grand Ole Opry, before the band became his main work. Volume Five signed to Mountain Fever Records in 2010 and has recorded for the label ever since, releasing Down In A Cell (2010), Children of the Mountain (2011), Run (2013), The Day We Learned To Fly (2014), Voices (2015), Drifter (2016), Milestones (2018), For Those Who Care To Listen (2019), Karma (2021) and Leave A Light On (2025). The band's breakthrough came in 2017, when it won the International Bluegrass Music Association's Emerging Artist of the Year award and the song I Am A Drifter took IBMA Song of the Year. Its singles have reached number one on the Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited airplay charts, several of its albums have placed in the Billboard bluegrass top ten, and the group has drawn Gospel Music Association Dove Award and SPBGMA nominations as well. The instrumentation is traditional and the arrangements are built around Harrell's fiddle and lead vocal, with the band having kept a steady touring and recording schedule for more than fifteen years.
