Val Storey is a Nashville-based country, bluegrass and gospel singer. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, she moved with her family to Tennessee at the age of three and grew up around one of Nashville's earliest home-based recording studios, which her father operated, putting her in the room with working session players from childhood. She began doing session work as a teenager, singing high soprano harmony alongside the Jordanaires, was one of the youngest featured performers at the Opryland theme park, and spent a stretch fronting the jazz ensemble Pulse. As a studio vocalist she has recorded for Columbia, Mercury, RCA, Rounder, Sony and Universal, and sung behind Dolly Parton, Gene Watson, Joey + Rory, Bradley Walker, and Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time. She appears on Carl Jackson's Mark Twain: Words and Music, which won a Grammy in 2010. Since 2012, when the Time Jumpers vacated the weekly slot, Storey has held the Monday-night residency at the Station Inn with Jackson and Cordle, working through country, bluegrass and blues material, and she also leads a Sunday afternoon gospel show at the same venue. She has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Her earlier releases include an independent debut, Where Flowers Bloom, and a gospel album in 2009. In August 2020 she and her husband survived a serious motorcycle crash that required months of rehabilitation before she returned to the Station Inn stage. Storey records for Cordle's Mighty Cord Records; Share Your Secrets With Me, produced by Cordle and released in 2023, was her first secular country album in more than a decade and mixed original material with songs associated with Nanci Griffith, an early and lasting influence, and Emmylou Harris. She has continued issuing singles for the label, including a bluegrass reading of I've Just Seen a Face in 2025 and Taste of Life, a Leona Williams song, in 2026, cut with Cody Kilby, Scott Vestal, Andy Leftwich, Jenee Fleenor and Dennis Crouch.
