hardcore punk

trash. is a Colorado pop-punk and emo band based in Denver, formed in 2018 by vocalist Kayleigh "Jack" Gustkey and guitarist Michael Olivier; bassist Sam Rucker and drummer Jordan Bettner joined in 2019, and the members are drawn from across the state. The band states its aim as refusing to let emo die, and its songs pull together 2000s emo, 1990s alternative rock and 1970s punk, setting angular guitar figures and dissonant voicings under introspective lyrics, a combination one Colorado reviewer summarized as Warped Tour meets Dream Theater. Early self-produced releases include January (2018) and Downer (2020). The 2022 EP Ghosts, recorded at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, was the group's first work with engineer Andrew Berlin; its opening track Residual has a video shot partly in Denver's Cheesman Park, and the record's songs turn on heartbreak and recovery framed in supernatural imagery. The singles Bully and Lucy followed in 2023, and Seance arrived in October 2025, again engineered by Andrew Berlin, then mixed by Chris Beeble and mastered by Jason Livermore. Alongside the recordings the band has self-produced roughly eleven music videos. It has placed in the top ten of Denver station Channel 93.3's Hometown for the Holidays competition in two consecutive years and been featured by Indie 102.3 and Colorado Public Radio's Local 303 series. Live, the group pairs Gustkey's vocal range against a rhythm section that carries the progressive-leaning arrangements. trash. plays Globe Hall in Denver.
