Tobacco Road

Tobacco Road is a five-piece bluegrass band based in North Carolina and southern Virginia. The lineup is Samantha Coe on fiddle, Bailey Coe on guitar, Ron Inscore on mandolin, Joe Hannabach on bass and Andy Lowe on banjo, with all five singing. The band's name refers both to the tobacco farming that shaped the region and to the Tobacco Road college sports rivalry that runs through the same stretch of the Carolina Piedmont. The group plays traditional Appalachian material alongside its own songs, built on tight vocal harmony and instrumental breaks. In 2026 Tobacco Road won the bluegrass band contest at the 90th annual Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax, Virginia, one of the oldest and largest string-band competitions in the United States. The band works a regional circuit of festivals, fiddlers conventions and small rooms across the Carolinas and Virginia, including Lorraine's Coffee House in Garner, North Carolina.
