Three Trails Taiko

Three Trails Taiko is a volunteer community taiko drumming ensemble serving the greater Kansas City area, founded in the summer of 2010 by players who had performed with Denver Taiko and Ki-Daiko. It is organized as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and typically numbers around eight volunteer members. The group plays kumi-daiko, the ensemble style of Japanese drumming developed in the 1950s by jazz drummer Daihachi Oguchi; its own materials trace the older uses of taiko in marking boundaries, in military signaling and in kabuki theater before the postwar shift toward group performance. The ensemble appears at cultural festivals, charity benefits, library programs and business events, including the Greater Kansas City Japan Festival, the Independence Cherry Blossom Festival and the Ethnic Enrichment Festival, and it has performed at branches of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library and appeared as a guest at the Naka-Kon anime convention. It is listed among the performers for the KKFI Crossroads Music Fest in Kansas City, and plays Lemonade Park in Kansas City.
