The Wolf Tones

The Wolf Tones is an American progressive bluegrass and acoustic string band based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formed in 2023. Formed as a local bluegrass collective featuring members from regional string bands Sweaty Already, Shelf Life String Band, and Jakob's Ferry Stragglers—including banjoist Joe Dep, guitarist Patrick Varine, bassist David Nemo, and mandolinist Archie Cortez—the ensemble performs original tunes, bluegrass traditionals, and acoustic rock covers across western Pennsylvania, including regular residencies at the Thunderbird Café in Pittsburgh.
