The St. Croix Valley String Collective

The St. Croix Valley String Collective is an ensemble of professional string players who live in the Minnesota and Wisconsin towns along the St. Croix River. Its roster is Maritsa Rosamilia on viola and violin, Josh Misner on violin, Benjamin Burgdorf on viola and violin, James Rosamilia on cello, and Amanda Burgdorf on cello and voice; the group assembles in configurations that run from a solo cellist to a full string orchestra, so players shift between parts depending on the program. Repertoire spans classical, contemporary, popular and improvised music, and the collective works both as a concert ensemble and as hired players for weddings, private events and recording sessions, covering the valley from Taylors Falls south to Red Wing. Its members carry separate careers alongside the group: Maritsa Rosamilia is a composer and recording artist trained at the Boston Conservatory and the Longy School of Music; James Rosamilia is a Yale graduate who also works in recording and engineering; Benjamin Burgdorf holds a tenured chair with the Des Moines Symphony and runs the Maple Strings teaching studio; Josh Misner is a recording engineer and a member of the Laurels String Quartet; Amanda Burgdorf balances touring with work in healthcare. Between them they have played First Avenue and the Guthrie and recorded for NPR. The collective appeared as a string quintet on the 2025 Marine Candlelight Series, a concert series in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota that is fiscally sponsored by Springboard for the Arts.
