The Red Clay Strays

bluegrass

The Red Clay Strays are a band from Mobile, Alabama, formed in 2016 out of a local cover group, blending Southern rock, country, Americana, gospel and soul. The core lineup is Brandon Coleman on lead vocals and guitar, Drew Nix on guitar and vocals, Zach Rishel on guitar, Andrew Bishop on bass and John Hall on drums, with keyboardist Sevans Henderson added around 2024. The band self-released its debut album Moment of Truth in April 2022 and built an audience the slow way, through relentless regional touring and a live sound that leans on Coleman's baritone and on unhurried, largely analog arrangements. Wondering Why, a song from that record, went viral on TikTok in September 2023 and became the group's first Billboard chart entry, debuting at number 33 on the Hot Rock and Alternative Songs chart; it is now certified triple platinum by the RIAA, and Moment of Truth later climbed to number 11 on the Americana/Folk Albums chart. The band signed with Thirty Tigers in May 2023 and with RCA Records in March 2024, and released Made by These Moments, produced by Dave Cobb, in July 2024. A third album, Grateful, followed in June 2026. Their rise has taken them from clubs to festival slots at Lollapalooza and CMA Fest and to opening dates on the Rolling Stones' Hackney Diamonds tour, and in 2025 they won the CMA Award for Vocal Group of the Year and the Academy of Country Music Award for New Duo or Group of the Year. They now headline arenas, including rooms such as Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Golden 1 Center in Sacramento and Enmarket Arena in Savannah.
