The Pretty Shabbies
The Pretty Shabbies are a psychedelic rock band from Denver, Colorado, formed in 2022. The band has grown past the small lineup it started with: the credits on its first album list a six-piece of Walker McIntyre on vocals, Konner McIntyre and Jason Burds on guitars and vocals, Ace Stanley on bass, Joseph Fisk on percussion and Issac Hoffman on keyboard, mandolin and banjo, and the current roster on the group's press kit adds Fiona Grimard, bringing it to seven. The music is built around garage-band psychedelia with a deliberately ramshackle presentation, and the band's own shorthand for its sound is pulpy. The nine-track debut, A Pretty Shabby Album, was released in October 2024 and moved between rock, funk, jazz and blues. A second album, Fiction, followed in 2025 and drew a wider stylistic range; reviewers noted crooner-jazz phrasing set against dissonant electric guitar, and traced individual tracks toward reference points as far apart as The Beach Boys, Beck, Sublime and System of a Down, with the record organized around themes of absurdity, psychedelia, protest and invention. The band's vocals have been singled out as eccentric and its songwriting as original rather than revivalist. Coverage has come from Bandwagon Magazine, Denver Westword and Denver Lynx Radio, and the group has built a following in the city's recent psych-rock scene, playing rooms such as Globe Hall. Its recordings are self-released through Bandcamp.
