The Neighbourhood is an American alternative rock band formed in Newbury Park, California, in 2011, working in a moody blend of alternative and indie rock, pop and R&B usually presented in black and white. The band adopted the British spelling of its name to distinguish itself from an existing act using the American one. The lineup is vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margott and drummer Brandon Fried, who replaced founding drummer Bryan Sammis after Sammis left in 2014 to record as Olivver the Kid. Their debut album I Love You. arrived in 2013 on Columbia Records and produced Sweater Weather, which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and then resurged nearly a decade later through streaming and radio to become one of the most-played alternative songs of the 2020s. Three more Columbia albums followed: Wiped Out! (2015), which topped Billboard's Top Alternative Albums chart, the self-titled The Neighbourhood (2018) and the concept record Chip Chrome and the Mono-Tones (2020), the last of which cast Rutherford as a silver-suited alter ego. Along the way Afraid, Daddy Issues and Softcore all found long second lives online. The band announced a hiatus in February 2022 following Fried's departure amid allegations against him, and Rutherford released solo material during the break. In August 2025 the group signaled a return with Fried back in the lineup, and its fifth album, Ultrasound, appeared on November 14, 2025, followed by a deluxe edition and a large-scale international tour that includes arena dates such as the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
