The Little Roy and Lizzy Show

bluegrass

The Little Roy and Lizzy Show is a bluegrass and gospel act based in Lincolnton, Georgia, pairing banjo player Little Roy Lewis with multi-instrumentalist Lizzy Long. Roy McArthur Lewis Jr. learned banjo at six and won a local talent contest by eight, then spent decades in the Lewis Family, the group founded by his parents that became known as the first family of bluegrass gospel. He has been inducted into the IBMA Hall of Honor, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the SPBGMA Hall of Greats and the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and USA Today described him as a picker's picker. He also plays guitar and autoharp and handles much of the act's comedy and storytelling. Lizzy Long grew up on a farm in Lincolnton, began on piano before moving to fiddle, and was the first person to graduate from Glenville State College's four-year bluegrass music program; she plays fiddle, banjo, guitar, autoharp, mandolin and bass and has worked with Mac Wiseman, Jim and Jesse, Earl Scruggs and the Lewis Family. Her album Blueberry Pie reached number two on Billboard's bluegrass chart in 2015. The pair record for Mountain Home Music Company, with releases including Dreaming Again (2020) and Welcome to the Show (2022) among roughly five albums across a dozen years together, and they have won four Dove Awards for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year, including a 2015 award for God Is There. Their touring band has included Holger Oleson on bass, Sally Sandker on guitar and Matthew Songmaker on mandolin. On stage the show mixes hymns and bluegrass standards with instrument swaps and comic patter. The duo hosts an annual festival at the Lewis Family Homeplace on Lewis Family Road in Lincolnton and otherwise plays fairs, gospel sings and bluegrass festivals across the Southeast.
