The Gringos

Gringos is a metal band from Memphis, Tennessee whose sound spans hardcore, noise rock and progressive metal. The group works as a trio, describing itself on its own releases as a three-headed dog and crediting its members under mythological stage names rather than real ones. Its self-released catalog runs back to the mid-1990s Memphis underground: the fourteen-song aDiOs gRiNgO dates from 1995 and was recorded by Stuart Sikes at Easley Recording, the studio then central to the city's independent rock scene. Our Stellar Devotion followed in 2001, a nineteen-track set recorded and mixed by Kyle Johnson and later remastered at Rocket Science Audio in 2015, with song titles drawn from astronomy and cosmology, among them Harmony of the Spheres, Blood Moon, Sons of David Bowman and Absolute Zero, and interlude passages played with help from Mark Svetz, Rob Rich and Chris Coble. The 7-inch EP Universal Adapter appeared in 2008, recorded in Subterrania and mixed by Svetz. Gringo the Harbinger, an eleven-track album cut in the autumn of 2000 but left unfinished, was finally sequenced, mastered and released in July 2020. The Bandcamp catalog also holds Brown Acid, Pearly Gates and a Paranoid EP. The band tours nationally, including Colorado club dates in Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins.
