The Breaks: Eddie Roberts
jam band
The Breaks is a funk trio of guitarist Eddie Roberts, keyboardist Robert Walter and drummer Stanton Moore, rooted in late-1960s organ-trio and boogaloo styles. Each member arrives from a long-running band of his own: Roberts founded the British funk group The New Mastersounds, Walter plays organ in the Greyboy Allstars, and Moore drums in the New Orleans group Galactic. The trio describes its own approach as deep-pocket rhythm, tight arrangement and open improvisation, and its live sets are built around interplay rather than a fixed program, in rooms ranging from clubs to festival stages. The group cut its debut album over four days at Marigny Studios in New Orleans and released it on Color Red Records, on vinyl and streaming. Touring in 2026 has taken it to the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and through a West Coast run including the Independent in San Francisco and Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, plus the Joshua Tree Music Festival and Camp Deep End, followed by Midwest and East Coast dates in Denver, Chicago, Pennsylvania, New York, Washington and Massachusetts.
