Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker, begun in Perth in 2007 as a home-recording venture and signed to Modular Recordings in July 2008. Parker writes, records, produces and mixes the studio albums alone, playing all the instruments himself, and has described the process as one person assembling a symphony of sound. The catalogue runs from Innerspeaker (2010) and Lonerism (2012) on Modular through Currents (2015), The Slow Rush (2020) and Deadbeat (2025), the later records issued by Interscope in the United States and Fiction in the United Kingdom. The music moved across that span from guitar-led neo-psychedelia toward synthesiser-driven psychedelic pop and dance production. Live, Tame Impala is a full band: Parker on lead vocals and guitar with Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Cam Avery, Julien Barbagallo and James Ireland covering guitars, synthesisers, bass, drums and backing vocals. Lonerism was nominated for the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, and the project has taken two J Awards, an APRA Song of the Year award in 2016, and multiple ARIA Awards including Album of the Year, with five ARIA wins at the 2020 ceremony alone. The band headlined Coachella in 2019 and Primavera Sound in 2020 and has played Glastonbury, Reading and Splendour in the Grass. Parker's outside work as a writer and producer includes collaborations with the Flaming Lips, Travis Scott, Dua Lipa, Gorillaz and Diana Ross; a remix of Deadbeat's Dracula featuring Jennie became the project's first top-ten entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 in February 2026. Current touring is arena-scale, including dates at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
