T Sisters

T Sisters is an American folk and Americana group built on the close three-part harmony of siblings Erika, Rachel and Chloe Tietjen, of whom Rachel and Chloe are twins. They grew up in Berkeley, California and are based in nearby Oakland. The sisters accompany themselves, Rachel on bass and guitar and Chloe on drums and guitar, and expand to a larger band, at times a sextet, for fuller arrangements; the repertoire crosses roots, country, gospel, bluegrass, soul and pop. Their first full-length, Kindred Lines, appeared in May 2014, produced by the bluegrass singer and fiddler Laurie Lewis and collecting eleven originals plus a Paul Simon cover, recorded with guitarist Grant Gordy, bassist Todd Phillips and drummer Rick Alegria and with guest contributions from mandolinist Mike Marshall and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sauber. A self-titled album followed in 2016, and the catalog also holds the EPs Ready For Love, We Are Bound, Big Girl Pants and SHeroes, along with Live at Tiny Telephone. We Are Bound was cut in Nashville with Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers producing and Jano Rix and Chris Wood contributing, and turned toward societal division, dubious authority, spiritual renewal and activism. SHeroes takes the opposite tack, reworking five songs first recorded by women artists, among them Madonna, Tina Turner, Gloria Gaynor and Taylor Swift. The trio has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion and was selected for American Music Abroad, the United States State Department's cultural diplomacy program, touring and leading workshops across the Middle East and North Africa on girls' empowerment and the role of music in social change. They are managed by Casey Shafer of Burning House Management and booked by Madison House.
