Summer Breeze

Summer Breeze is a Kansas City yacht rock tribute band that has performed the soft-rock hits of the 1970s and 1980s since 2009. It was founded and is led by drummer Billy Brimblecom Jr., and its repertoire draws on Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, Linda Ronstadt and Steely Dan, with occasional themed nights outside that catalog including a recurring Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute. Brimblecom is also executive director of the Steps of Faith Foundation, a Kansas City nonprofit that has funded prosthetic care for uninsured amputees since 2013. He lost his left leg to cancer in 2005, and a benefit organized by friends, among them the actor Jason Sudeikis, to pay for a prosthesis grew into Thundergong!, an annual celebrity variety concert that has raised more than a million dollars for the foundation. Summer Breeze serves as Thundergong!'s house band, backing the guests who appear each year, a list that has included Wynonna Judd, Nathaniel Rateliff, Ben Harper, Flavor Flav and Weird Al Yankovic alongside actors such as Sudeikis, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Hannah Waddingham and Brendan Hunt. Away from that event the band works a steady regional circuit: the Uptown Theater and Knuckleheads in Kansas City, Liberty Hall in Lawrence, the Warehouse on Broadway, Percheron at the Crossroads Hotel, and free summer series such as Sunset Music Fest at Town Center Plaza in Leawood, Kansas.
