Strike Anywhere

Strike Anywhere is a melodic hardcore and punk band from Richmond, Virginia, formed in 1999 by vocalist Thomas Barnett after his previous group Inquisition disbanded; the band takes its name from an Inquisition song. The founding lineup of Barnett, guitarist Matt Smith, bassist Garth Petrie and drummer Eric Kane is still in place, with Mark Miller joining on second guitar in 2007 in place of Matt Sherwood. The band's first releases were the Chorus of One EP in 2000 and a single for Fat Wreck Chords' Fat Club series, followed by the studio albums Change Is a Sound (2001) and Exit English (2003) for Jade Tree, Dead FM (2006) for Fat Wreck Chords and Iron Front (2009) for Bridge Nine. After a long gap the group returned with the Nightmares of the West EP, issued by Pure Noise Records in July 2020. A set recorded at London's Camden Underworld in November 2001 was released as a live split with As Friends Rust, and an acoustic live record, In Defiance of Empty Times, followed in 2012. The writing is overtly political, taking on police violence, anti-capitalism, women's rights, animal rights and corporate globalization, and the band's three-arrow logo references the antifascist Iron Front. Strike Anywhere has toured the United States and Europe steadily since a first American run with As Friends Rust in 2000 and a first European tour in late 2001, and it permits audience taping for personal use, authorizing the Internet Archive to host fan recordings. Songs from the Jade Tree and Fat Wreck albums appeared in the Tony Hawk games Underground (2003), American Wasteland (2005) and Downhill Jam (2006), and the band featured in the 2005 Warped Tour documentary Wake Up Screaming.
