Stella Cole

Stella Cole is an American jazz vocalist born January 13, 1999 in Springfield, Illinois, and now based in New York City. She has said her attachment to the music dates to seeing The Wizard of Oz at age three, and she cites Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand as formative influences. She graduated from Northwestern University in 2021 with a degree in theatre and international relations. Her audience came first from the internet: during the pandemic she posted covers of standards to TikTok and YouTube, and an impromptu reading of Over the Rainbow went viral, followed by Stephen Sondheim's Everybody Says Don't. James Taylor reposting her version of Moon River gave the run further reach, and her following has since passed 1.7 million across platforms. Her repertoire is the Great American Songbook and the film-musical and popular-song literature of the 1940s through the 1960s, sung straight rather than reinvented. She released a self-titled independent debut in 2023, the holiday record Snow! in 2024, which features Darren Criss, and It's Magic in 2025 on Decca Records US; a live album recorded at Cafe Carlyle followed in 2026. She works with Grammy-winning producer Matt Pierson and arranger Alan Broadbent. In New York she has performed at Birdland, Dizzy's Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Cafe Carlyle, and has also appeared at Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden. In 2023 she toured the United States, Australia and New Zealand with Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox.
