Steel Beans
alternative rock · rock · indie rock
Steel Beans is the one-man band of Everett, Washington musician Jeremy DeBardi, who plays guitar and drums simultaneously while singing, operating a kit and a guitar rig at the same time rather than looping or triggering backing tracks. DeBardi, born in the late 1980s, began performing under the name around the turn of the 2000s and spent roughly two decades gigging around Everett and the rest of western Washington. He is prolific and almost entirely self-released: his catalog runs from Steel Beans in 2007 through Steel Beans II in 2008 and Steel Beans III: Twilight of Creation in 2009, then Titanium Huevos and Glowing Indigo Shadow Room in 2010, a three-record year in 2011 with Bus Ride Home, The Variegated Tonal Opulence and nOCTURNAL oCTAVE oVERDRIVE, followed by Moonchild in 2012, Firedance in 2013, TWO SHAMS in 2014, Apricado in 2016, Steel Beans XIII: Albatross Birdbath in 2017 and the MAESTRODOSING EP in 2022. The music sits between garage rock, psychedelia and something closer to outsider art, and the records are titled and sequenced with the same eccentricity. His audience widened sharply in 2022 when video of him performing his song Molotov Cocktail Lounge, playing every part at once, circulated widely on social media. That exposure led to national touring: in early 2023 he was announced as support on Tenacious D's Spicy Meatball Tour for both United States and European dates, and later that year he opened Tool's fall tour.
