Starfarer

Starfarer is a Denver-based electronic producer and performer working in a science-fiction-themed strain of synthwave that he labels sci-fi EDM. He came to electronic production from heavy music, having previously played guitar in metal bands, and that background shows in tracks built around distorted low end and driving rhythm as much as around vintage synthesizer tone. His catalog moves between those heavier, club-oriented pieces and ambient, cinematic material drawing on 1980s horror and science-fiction film scores. He released a self-titled debut in 2018 and has since issued several further records, among them The Dark in 2021, along with a steady run of collaborative singles with other synthwave artists including Magnavolt, Terrordyne, Night Rider 87 and Light4storm. His recordings have passed 3.5 million streams on Spotify, and he has been covered by outlets in the retrowave press such as NewRetroWave. Live, he plays synthesizers on stage wearing a futuristic helmet and suit of his own design, treating sound, costume and visual narrative as parts of a single presentation rather than separate elements. He has shared bills with Com Truise, The Crystal Method, Magic Sword and Starcadian.
