Stanton Moore is an American drummer, bandleader and educator from New Orleans, born July 9, 1972 and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. He holds a bachelor's degree in music and business from Loyola University New Orleans and helped found the New Orleans funk band Galactic in the early 1990s, a group he has recorded and toured with ever since. He launched his solo career with All Kooked Out! in 1998 and has released nine records under his own name, the most recent being With You In Mind: The Songs of Allen Toussaint in 2017; keyboardist Robert Walter and guitarist Will Bernard appear across much of that catalog. He is also a co-founder of Garage A Trois alongside saxophonist Skerik and guitarist Charlie Hunter. His session and stage work spans genres, including dates with Maceo Parker, Joss Stone, Irma Thomas, Leo Nocentelli and George Porter Jr. of the Meters, Trombone Shorty, Nicholas Payton, Donald Harrison Jr., Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, as well as the metal band Corrosion of Conformity, for whom he returned as session drummer in 2022, and Street Sweeper Social Club with Tom Morello and Boots Riley. In 2018 Moore and his Galactic bandmates pooled resources to buy the New Orleans venue Tipitina's. Teaching is a parallel career: he has published two instructional books, including Groove Alchemy, which Modern Drummer named among the top twenty-five drum instructional texts, won that magazine's reader polls for Educational Book and Educational DVD in 2011, and established the online Stanton Moore Drum Academy in 2017.
