Slayer is an American thrash metal band formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman with vocalist-bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo. Counted among thrash metal's big four alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, the band is best known for the 1986 album Reign in Blood. Slayer retired in 2019 and has since played occasional reunion shows.
