She Wants Revenge
indie rock · rock
She Wants Revenge is a Los Angeles duo formed in 2004 by Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin, who met as DJs in the San Fernando Valley. Their sound draws on post-punk, darkwave and gothic rock, the Joy Division comparison following them from the start, set over dance-rock rhythms and delivered in Warfield's low, near-spoken vocal. A Geffen deal produced the self-titled 2006 debut, certified gold, which carried the single Tear You Apart to number six on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart; the song went platinum and has had a long second life on screen, appearing in the film The Number 23 and in the television series Fringe and American Horror Story: Hotel. This Is Forever followed in October 2007 and the Up and Down EP in 2009, and the band moved to their own label, Perfect Kiss, for a third album, Valleyheart, in 2011. They went on indefinite hiatus in 2012 and returned in 2015 after Lady Gaga requested their music for American Horror Story: Hotel, stepped away again briefly around 2020, and have been recording and touring since 2022. The band has sold more than 300,000 records in the United States, and a deep cut from Up and Down found a new audience through TikTok, part of a resurgence that has pushed them past 2.8 million monthly Spotify listeners. A twentieth-anniversary edition of the debut appeared in 2026 through Perfect Kiss with remixes, demos, acoustic versions and Sarah Says, a previously unreleased track from among the first things the pair recorded, supported by a headline tour and festival dates. Live, the duo work with a full band: Bravin on Bass VI and synths, Thomas Froggatt on bass, Tony Bevilacqua of The Distillers on guitar and Lia Braswell on drums.
