Seven Teller
jam band · rock · post-punk
Seven Teller is the art-rock project of Baltimore musician and songwriter Sam Cochran, who started it in 2020. Cochran writes the material and sings and plays guitar, synth, piano and percussion; the band around him is Chris Ackerman on bass guitar and percussion, Steve Fuggi on drums, Ben Nevius on piano and clavinet and David Gaines on percussion. The group's reference points run from post-punk and dance-rock to psychedelia, with LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads and Can named on its own pages, while the live approach comes out of the jam scene Cochran grew up on, Phish and Lotus among the early influences, with extended improvisation built into the sets. Musicians from Goose, Eggy and Dopapod have sat in at Seven Teller shows. The album What Are The Chances? was released on 20 February 2026: ten tracks written, engineered and mixed by Cochran, recorded in Baltimore at a Buena Vista Avenue space and at his house, and mastered by Blake Ruby. It is the most electronic and dance-oriented music the project has made, and its subject matter is largely social, taking in going out to shows, the people met there and the coincidence of meeting them at all, a question the title track asks directly. Songs include City Lites, Babies and Chances. Cochran also works widely as a sideman and cover-band player around the Baltimore and Washington area, in configurations from solo and duo up to quartets and tribute sets, with a repertoire that ranges across bluegrass, reggae, zydeco, funk, jazz and rock. The band toured nationally behind the album through 2026.
