Seth Glier

Seth Glier is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in western Massachusetts, working mainly at the piano and guitar in a folk and pop-rock idiom. He has released records through MPress Records since The Trouble With People in 2009. His second album for the label, The Next Right Thing (2011), was nominated for a Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, credited to Glier alongside engineer Kevin Killen; the songs grew out of time he spent performing in elementary schools, nursing homes and hospitals, and the record was co-produced with Ryan Hommel. He followed it with Things I Should Let You Know (2013), If I Could Change One Thing (2015), Birds (2017) and The Coronation. Everything, released in January 2024, is a compact set of eight songs organised around climate solutions rather than climate alarm: individual tracks take up rewilding, regenerative farming, restoring waterways and offshore wind, and Mammoth is written from the perspective of a woolly mammoth revived from frozen DNA. Glier has served as a cultural diplomat for the US State Department, travelling to work with musicians abroad, and has run songwriting work in social settings including sessions with students affected by the Parkland shooting and with soldiers at Walter Reed. He is a five-time Independent Music Award winner and speaks publicly on autism awareness, a subject tied to his late brother, whose life shaped much of Birds. On stage he has shared bills with James Taylor, Ani DiFranco, Ronnie Spector and Glen Campbell; in the studio he has worked with Sophie B. Hawkins, Tom Rush, Dar Williams and Cyndi Lauper. He performs both solo and with a band, largely on the northeastern folk-society and listening-room circuit.
