Sera Cahoone

Sera Cahoone is a Seattle-based singer-songwriter who grew up in the Colorado foothills, in Littleton, and moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1998. She started on drums as a child, and her first years in Seattle were spent behind a kit rather than in front of a microphone: she drummed for the slowcore band Carissa's Wierd until its 2003 split, then played on Band of Horses' 2006 album Everything All the Time. Her self-titled solo debut introduced a spare style that pulls classic country and western together with indie rock, and led to a Sub Pop contract. The label released Only as the Day Is Long in 2008 and Deer Creek Canyon, produced by Thom Monahan, in 2012; reviewers have placed her alongside Gillian Welch and Jenny Lewis. She left the label to self-release From Where I Started in 2017, recorded with John Morgan Askew and featuring players from Iron and Wine, Death Cab for Cutie and Son Volt, and followed it with The Flora String Sessions in 2018. In July 2013 she and pedal steel player Jason Kardong played on the roof of Seattle's Space Needle for Sub Pop's Silver Jubilee, broadcast live on KEXP. In the years after From Where I Started she worked increasingly as a producer, making records for Dean Johnson and Margo Cilker. Sub Pop announced her return to the label in May 2026, and her album I've Missed You All These Years is due on 28 August 2026, co-produced by Cahoone and Askew at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington and preceded by the singles Say Something, Pulling Up Roots and Not How I Hoped. The record draws on a stretch of personal loss, including the death of her father during the pandemic.
