Saxsquatch
Saxsquatch is the stage persona of American saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dean Mitchell, who performs in a Bigfoot costume and builds sets from live-looped covers and original electronic material. Based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and formerly the saxophonist in the Marcus King Band, a role he held until 2020, he began posting performance videos as Saxsquatch to YouTube in 2019. A cover of Daft Punk's One More Time broke through in 2020, and by that September his clips were averaging three to five million views a day across social platforms; the character has since drawn an audience of more than three million followers. He has released music through Monstercat and collaborated with John Oates on an electronic reworking of the Hall & Oates song Maneater in 2021 and with Half an Orange on Moondance, which was used in Rocket League; his music has also appeared in Fortnite, and he wrote theme music for Rocket League the same year. Other collaborators include Billy Ray Cyrus and the band WAR. Television appearances include Jimmy Fallon's That's My Jam and Tosh.0, and his releases have been covered by Rolling Stone and Forbes. The live show combines saxophone played over his own production with upright bass and funk-leaning electronic beats and a great deal of audience interaction. The 2024 Bigfoot Rave tour added a full laser production, and the following Footprints tour sold out twenty-seven United States dates, finishing at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. He has shared bills with Walk the Moon, Billy Strings, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Goldfish.
