Satin Jackets
chicago house · deep house · disco
Satin Jackets is the nu-disco and deep house project of German producer Tim Bernhardt, launched in 2011 after roughly a decade of work under other pseudonyms and in bands. He gained wider recognition with the 2013 single You Make Me Feel Good on the Belgian label Eskimo Recordings, which has carried most of his catalogue since. His debut album Panorama Pacifico appeared in 2016, followed by Solar Nights in 2019 and Reunion in 2022. Reunion was written largely during pandemic lockdowns, growing out of online studio sessions that drew well over a million streams, and pairs Bernhardt with vocalists including the Australian act Panama, British singer Tailor, Belgian singer Ivy Falls and American vocalist Metaxas across tracks such as Move On, First Thing, Spell and Different Directions. Earlier collaborators include Scavenger Hunt, NTEIBINT, Marble Sounds, David Harks, Niya Wells, Emma Brammer and Anduze. Eskimo describes the record's range as sun-kissed disco, Balearic house and leftfield pop, which places the project as much in the Balearic and downtempo lineage as in straight disco revivalism; Bernhardt names Nile Rodgers and Trevor Horn among his touchstones and works primarily in Ableton and Maschine. He performs wearing a distinctive mask designed by Australian artist Jason Wood, keeping the project's visual identity separate from his own, and has co-founded the group runSQ with the German electronic duo Blank & Jones.
