San Holo

trap · indie rock

San Holo is the stage name of Sander van Dijck, a Dutch electronic producer, guitarist and songwriter from Zoetermeer, born November 26, 1990. He studied music production and guitar at Codarts in Rotterdam, graduating in 2012, and worked in bands and as a ghost producer for other DJs before his own remixes, including the hip-hop reworks he circulated in the mid-2010s, drew attention. Early singles appeared on Spinnin' Records, OWSLA and Monstercat. Light, released in 2016, reached number thirteen on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and remains his best-known track, and the same year's We Rise became another streaming staple. He founded the independent label and collective bitbird, which he uses both for his own records and to sign younger electronic producers. His debut album, album1, arrived on bitbird on 21 September 2018 and entered Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart at number seven, with guests including Sofie Winterson, Bipolar Sunshine, James Vincent McMorrow, Yvette Young, Caspian, Duskus and Fazerdaze. He followed it with the Stay Vibrant EP in 2020, bb u ok? in 2021, Existential Dance Music in 2023 and TRUE LOVE IN A MADE UP WORLD in 2026. The music moves between future bass, trap, ambient and indie-rock textures, and he plays electric guitar and sings in his live show rather than performing a purely DJ set. He also runs the stay vibrant project, an ongoing mental-health framing of his work that uses a percentage symbol as a mood meter, and made ambient material with the meditation app Calm in 2022. In 2014 Walt Disney Pictures challenged his stage name as too close to Han Solo; he kept it.
