Salin

Salin is a Thai-born drummer, producer and composer based in Montreal, Quebec, who builds her music around the meeting of West African percussion, jazz and funk with the folk instruments of northeastern Thailand. Her album Rammana was released on March 28, 2025 through Republic of Music. She produced it with Lucas Zafiris, who also mixed and mastered the record; engineering was shared with Eric Rathe, Nicholas Boulay and Sylvain Arnaud, and the artwork came from Beyond Konstant Studio. Across its ten tracks, among them Current, Painted Lady, Puaj, Si Chomphu and the title piece, Salin's drum kit sits alongside ngoma drums and congas, bass, guitar, keys, saxophones, trumpet, strings and the Isaan phin and khene, a combination she has described as Afro Thai Funk and, on the record itself, as Afro Isaan Soul. Rammana was nominated for the Juno Award for Global Music Album of the Year, and the single Current placed third on Spotify's Fresh Finds Jazz best-of list for 2024. The album was also named a Bandcamp Album of the Day and picked up by Tidal's Best New Jazz playlist. In 2025 Salin was chosen as one of six artists for CBC's Revelation Canada. Her earlier releases include the albums Kouta in Siam and Cosmic Island, and she has recorded collaborations with Clerel on Rhythm of Love, Wayne Tennant on Heads UP and Sarah MK on In Tune with The Moon. Since 2024 she has toured the United States, Europe and Asia, with appearances including Winter Jazzfest in New York, a session for KEXP, Ronnie Scott's in London and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
