Robert Plant is an English rock and roots singer, born Robert Anthony Plant on August 20, 1948 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. He was the lead singer and lyricist of Led Zeppelin from the band's formation in 1968 until it dissolved in 1980 after drummer John Bonham's death, and has since released twelve solo studio albums, beginning with Pictures at Eleven in 1982. His later work has moved steadily away from hard rock and into blues, folk, Appalachian and North African material, most visibly on Raising Sand (2007), his duet album with Alison Krauss, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2009, and its 2021 sequel Raise the Roof. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Led Zeppelin in 1995 and appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2009. He has worked through a succession of named bands — Band of Joy, the Sensational Space Shifters, and since 2019 Saving Grace, a folk and roots group built around vocalist Suzi Dian, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, cellist Barney Morse-Brown and drummer Oli Jefferson. The album Saving Grace, credited to Robert Plant with Suzi Dian, was released by Nonesuch Records on September 26, 2025. Recorded between April 2019 and January 2025 in the Cotswolds and the Welsh Borders, it consists of ten interpretations of other writers' songs, drawing on Memphis Minnie, Blind Willie Johnson, Bob Mosley of Moby Grape, Low, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan and Sarah Siskind; Plant has called it a song book of the lost and found. Singles included "Everybody's Song," "Gospel Plough" and "Chevrolet." The record reached number four on the UK albums chart, topped the UK Americana chart, and holds a Metacritic score of 86. Live, the band works at far lower volume than Plant's rock catalogue implies, built on close harmony between Plant and Dian over acoustic strings and cello. Its Up the Sharp End tour of the United States runs sixteen dates from September 18 to October 15, 2026, with Rosie Flores supporting.
