Riley Green

Riley Green is an American country singer and songwriter from Jacksonville, Alabama, born Johnathan Riley Green on October 18, 1988. He learned the music that shaped him from his grandfather, Buford Green, who ran a converted sawmill venue called the Golden Saw where Green played regularly, and he attended Jacksonville State University, where he was a quarterback for the Gamecocks. After self-releasing a run of EPs between 2013 and 2017, he signed with Big Machine Label Group in 2018; his records now come out on Nashville Harbor Records and Entertainment, the successor to that imprint. His first major-label single, "There Was This Girl," reached number one on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in April 2019, and "I Wish Grandpas Never Died," written for the grandfather who taught him, became one of his best-known songs. The Academy of Country Music named him New Male Artist of the Year in 2020. His studio albums are Different 'Round Here (2019), Ain't My Last Rodeo (2023) and Don't Mind If I Do (2024); a fourth, That's Just Me, produced by Dann Huff, is scheduled for September 2026. He has also cut a duet version of "Different 'Round Here" with Luke Combs. His 2024 duet with Ella Langley, "you look like you love me," topped Country Airplay, was certified multi-platinum, and won Musical Event of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards before taking Single, Song and Music Video of the Year at the 2025 ceremony, the first record to win all of those categories in one night. "Worst Way," first issued on the 2024 EP Way Out Here and sent to country radio in 2025, became his third solo Country Airplay number one. Green writes in a traditional storytelling vein, with small-town Alabama detail and an unhurried baritone, and his shows lean on that catalogue rather than production. Through 2026 he is headlining the Cowboy As It Gets Tour, with Randy Houser and Hannah McFarland on the bill.
