Rakim, born William Michael Griffin Jr. in Wyandanch, New York, is an American rapper who rose to prominence as half of the duo Eric B. & Rakim. The pair released four albums between 1987 and 1992, beginning with Paid in Full, and Rakim is widely credited with popularizing internal and multisyllabic rhyme schemes and a relaxed, jazz-influenced delivery. His solo records include The 18th Letter (1997) and The Seventh Seal (2009).
