Q Marsden

Q Marsden, who records mononymously as Q, is an American R&B singer, songwriter and producer from Broward County, Florida. He grew up in Pembroke Pines in a musical family, singing in a church choir and spending time at the recording studio his father, Steven Marsden, kept in Jamaica; his earliest musical memory is playing his mother's keyboard at the age of five. In high school he moved from guitar to producing on a laptop, which is where his interest in the studio process took hold, and after experimenting with rapping he settled into singing as his writing turned toward alternative R&B. His professional catalogue opens with Thoughts, a 2018 collection of short songs, followed by the debut album Forest Green in 2019 and the EP The Shave Experiment in 2020, reissued as a director's cut in 2021. Soul, PRESENT arrived in 2023, a mixtape titled 10 songs in 2025 and the album DO YOU SEE ME? in 2026. He records for Columbia Records. The music folds reggae, soul, funk and acoustic pop into an R&B frame, and Q names Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Dennis Brown and Drake as reference points, crediting Jones in particular for his approach to production. He has said he wants songs to leave listeners with hope rather than stranded in a difficult feeling, and his work is frequently discussed as making room for Black men to name their emotions. In 2023 Spotify selected him for its RADAR US class, which brought playlist support, performance videos and Spotify Singles recordings. He plays clubs including MilkBoy in Philadelphia.
