Phil Wickham

Phil Wickham is a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter and worship leader from San Diego, California, born April 5, 1984. He is the second of three children of John and Lisa Wickham, who have both led worship since 1981; his father played in bands for the label Maranatha! Music, and Wickham began leading worship himself at thirteen with the youth group at Maranatha Chapel. He graduated from Calvary Christian School in Vista, California, in 2002, then moved into music full time, touring California and recording a debut album, Give You My World, in 2003. His catalog since includes Cannons, Living Hope and Hymn of Heaven, and the single This Is Amazing Grace was certified platinum by the RIAA and topped the 2014 year-end Christian Airplay chart. In 2014 he underwent vocal cord surgery and spent a month under orders not to speak; that recovery shaped his 2016 album Children of God. Later records widened his audience further. I Believe, released in 2023, drew a Grammy nomination, and Song of the Saints followed in 2025, entering Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart at number two. The 2025 single What an Awesome God became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one on multiple Christian airplay charts. He has also won GMA Dove Awards. Much of his output is written for congregational singing rather than for radio alone, which is why titles such as This Is Amazing Grace and Living Hope circulate through church worship sets as well as his own concerts. Wickham married Mallory Plotnik in 2008; the couple have four children and attend Light Church in Encinitas, California. He tours arenas and large theaters across the United States, including a date at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
