OTIS
OTIS is a blues-based rock and roll band from Kentucky, with Boone Froggett on guitar and lead vocals, Alex Wells on guitar, John Seeley on bass and Dale Myers on drums. The members grew up in a state whose musical traditions run through country, bluegrass, gospel, folk and rock and roll, and around household instruments including piano, fiddle and guitar. The band's sound draws on 1960s and 1970s classic rock alongside blues and Motown touchstones such as Muddy Waters and Leadbelly, and while the group is often filed under Southern rock it describes its own palette as wider than that label. Its first release, Tough Times: A Tribute to John Brim, came out in 2014 and honoured the former Chess Records bluesman. The band then signed to Cleopatra Records for its second album, Eyes of the Sun, issued in 2017; four songs from it appear in the 2020 film Street Survivors. Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top became an early champion and passed the band's albums on to Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck, and the blues guitarist Tinsley Ellis has praised the group's playing and singing as raw and righteous.
